About us

In every human being there is an Arjuna - lost in today's world and mired in the quicksand of materialism. We are endeavoring to awaken this Arjuna in everyone Inspired by readings in the Bhagavad Gita, the study of Vedanta and the timeless Wisdom of the Ancients, the Arise Arjuna Foundation has been formed for the betterment of all Mankind. The Foundation actively seeks and involves the world's leading experts in various fields of study related to the Arise Arjuna initiative. Our website is also a resource for the public at large. It will regularly feature articles, interviews and news items through which Scholars, Gurus, Acharyas and Experts will share their collective wisdom with our readers.

Arise Arjuna, does not have any religious nor any political affiliations. The practical and non-sectarian goals, knowledge and teachings provided can be applied by anyone and everyone. Members of every religion or no religion can apply these to their day-to-day life. Arise Arjuna seeks to enhance and compliment rather than replace or convert.

The term ARISE ARJUNA is obviously rooted in the Hindu/Vedic Ethos yet it is truly a universal concept. The image of Arjuna, the troubled good hearted warrior arisen and tackling the challenges of life is universally applicable. Lord Krishna as the best friend, guide, teacher and Divinity has inspired and continues to inspire millions of people around the world regardless of ethnicity, religion, language, gender or nationality. Beyond merely being a part of a vast belief system, Arjuna, Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita represent essential core and basic human values that can be accessed, practiced and implemeted by one and all.

Ancient Personalities, be they from history or myth, evoke and inspire to this day. We see examples of this all around us. Thus we see that Modern India has evoked the power of the name 'Arjuna' when it developed 'Arjuna' tanks. India's Nuclear tests were labelled 'Smiling Buddha' and 'Operation Shakti 1 thru 5'. Indian Missiles are named Akash, Astra, Nag, Trishul, Prithvi, Sagarika, Dhanush, Agni and Surya. These terms and names instill a sense of strength, purpose and effectiveness in India's Nation and Military. These same dynamic ideals represent deep truths that speak toward every aspect of Indian life. India's use of such terms and names goes far beyond merely military and technological application.

India is not alone in its use of ancient figures shadowed in mythology. The US space program and military empower their programs thru the use of names and terminoligies that evoke a sense of grandeur, purpose and destiny. Thus we see the Apollo, Mercury and Gemini space programs. Many US military ideals, weapons and machines of power are given Indian names such as Pontiac, Tomohawk, Apache, Geronimo, Cherokee, Iroquois, Tecumseh etc. Israel has a missile named Gabriel in an attempt to invoke the Angel Gabriel. Pakistan's weaponry is frequently named after ancient conquerors and heroic concepts as well. Ghaznavi, Shaheen I -II, and Ghauri I-II-III etc.

In a world that on one hand attempts to marginalize ancient grandeur, wisdom and heroic ideals solely to the realm of religion, faith and beliefs, it is disconcerting that these very same ideals when applied to the realms of warfare and technology are seen as noble and applicable. This is a great irony. That which is meant to bring hope is now used to instill fear. At the very essence of the world's ancient legends, myths and histories are the timeless values and experiances of ancient humanity. Rather than merely images of power and glory, these ancient legends and heroes are a part of our common human collective experiance. They are practical reminders of the wisdom, grandeur and humanity that is a part of us all. Ancient glory is meant for the healing of the world. Yet a traumatized humanity tends to reject its own ancient heritage. This is due to a lack of recognition of the authentic and integral place tradition and culture have in society.

Therefore the Arise Arjuna Foundation is an effort to harness humanities ancient glory as represented by the ancient world's largest epic, the Mahabharata. Rather than evoking Arjuna in the name of war, Arise Arjuna evokes that creative spark and warrior-like ability to overcome obstacles. This Arjuna-like being is present within everyone of us. The Timeless Wisdom and Practical Guidance of the Bhagavad Gitra as presented by Lord Krishna is applicable to us all. In fact, now more than ever, the message of the Bhagavad Gita can be a healing panacea to the ever increasing woes of a confused world lost in sectarianism and violence. The basic principle behind Arise Arjuna can be applied to the lives of anyone from any religious denomination. Remaining rooted within one's own traditions and culture, by applying the wisdom promoted by Arise Arjuna, one can actually enhance their personal foundation. Arise Arjuna recognizes that the differences between us do not separate us. Such differences are simply a part of the diversity that is naural to the the grand mosaic called creation .
